As long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord...

"Oh, my Lord! As you live, my Lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore, I have lent him to the Lord. As long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord. And he worshiped the Lord there." 1 Samuel 1:26-28

This word is on my heart tonight. Sunday, we will dedicate David to the Lord in front of God's people. It seems this event has lost some of its true meaning in a culture where so many do things out of tradition. I refuse to walk in the Lord's house on Sunday to dedicate my child as if this is some Christian right of passage. I fear I will forget how sacred of a moment Sunday morning will bring to our family and somehow dilute how huge this is. I know that David is the Lord's. I want a heart of submission about loving this child that has stolen my heart from day one. Even so, this commitment requires a lot of my flesh that I submit my only child to the care of the Lord. My trust will surely be refined in the depths of me I have yet to uncover. We want to walk in humility as we parent such a precious gift as a child of God. In order to be transformed in this way, I pray the Lord teaches us about stewardship of his children. I pray that we are equipped to love, train, and discipline David according to God's Word. I pray we are forgiving, patient, and true. Please join us in these prayers as we offer our child to the One he ultimately belongs to. We want to dedicate our hearts to raising this boy with all the truth that we hold so dear. We would like to invite whomever reads this blog to pray Jeremiah 17:7-8 over David Grantham. This is the word that we have chosen for our pastor and church to pray through during the Sunday morning service. And since we believe praying people draw the attention of a good, loving, faithful, and just God; we ask you to call forth truth for our son.

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit."
Jeremiah 17:7-8

You are SO right...our children belong to GOD and not us! I'm so glad he has entrusted us with them for this short time! We have a huge responsibility as parents! Sometimes I get overwhelmed at our "duties" as MOMS!!! But the LORD has equipped us with all we need!
Have fun dedicating David on Sunday!

I have clung to the story of Samuel's birth and have prayed Hannah's prayers as my own...I love that you have written about those verses! I hope everything went well at church. What a monumental day in the life of your family. I think of y'all often!!
